TWICE TOLD TALES

I started making black and white monotypes several years ago as a way of working on new images for paintings. They have evolved into finished works of their own. While some images are successful in black and white, others beckon to be expressed in color, and those have become paintings. I have grouped the color with black and white for this exhibition.

-Mitchell Friedman

“Here we see that even contained works of art featuring strong subject matter hold seemingly infinite possibilities.  Friedman plays on this truth by inviting the observer to complete a composition that is continually in flux.  He accomplishes his goal with allegorical imagery that draws the viewer right inside the picture”.

 -The Stamford Advocate

"In a highly developed process of translating images between mediums, Friedman is communicating the current human condition.”

-Stamford Advocate

“Mr. Friedman’s persistent theme seems to be an approaching apocalypse. While most of the works, whose action takes place in nature, hint at terror, others point to salvation."
